To me, the ability to communicate, connect, and share moments with others strengthens bonds between people and creates memories that can touch one’s heart for a lifetime. This incredible aspect of communication, bound together with my love for those little people in our lives, is what ignited my daily passion for being a speech therapist!
My passion for speech therapy started at home as I watched and assisted my younger sister, who had communication difficulties as a young child. Fast forward several years later, I attained my Bachelor’s degree in Speech and Hearing Therapy in 2002 and a Masters degree in Speech Pathology in 2007. However, my learning is never-ending!
Whether it be through regularly attending webinars, online courses or from the wonderful parents and children I am so privileged to work with every day. I have completed the PROMPT Introduction course, a handy therapy tool for working with children with speech and praxis problems.
In addition, I have recently extended my training into dysphagia and feeding. I have completed a Dysphagia for Speech-Language Therapists module through The University of Auckland (July 2020) and the SOFFI (Supporting Oral Feeding in Fragile Infants) entire course (November 2021).
I agree with the author Carol S. Dweck when she writes, “No matter what your ability is, effort is what ignites that ability and turns it into accomplishment”. This is one of the mottos I incorporate into my sessions. I have had the fortune to assist children ranging in age and communication difficulties in school and private practice settings.
I also enjoy making the beauty of communication come alive in own my personal life, as I try my best to connect and share special moments with those nearest and dearest to my heart, my loving family and amazing friends!
I have had so many rewarding and heart-warming experiences with the children and parents I have worked with, both past and present. I look forward to meeting you and your child and helping you along your communication journey.
